I am seeking assistance locating information about Benjamin Morris and Priscilla "Silla" Norman. They were long-time residents of Hickory, Mississippi. I am also seeking information on Silla's parents, Robert and Jennie Norman. My question is what records are available for the county, and were the African-American records filed separately from the white records. Any insight, or assistance, would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Steven J. Wright.

Your Archives section on Family Histories lists a book on the Emmons family. I am a descendent of Amanda P. Emmons, a daughter of Henry Clay Emmons by his first wife, Vashti Reeves. My questions are what is the complete name of the book, the author's name, and how many pages are in the book? If the book does address my line of the Emmons family, might you know of a way I could obtain a copy of it as my knowledge of the family is limited? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!

I hope that you can help me solve a family mystery. According to the autobiography of my wife's ancestor, Williamson Glover Moore, son of Joseph Gregory Moore and Elizabeth Tillman Glover, the family acquired the Bermuda Hill plantation and an adjacent 10,000 acres around 1860. Joseph sold Bermuda Hill to his brother William (who died before he could move in), but lived in the Saffold place on Bermuda Hill while they were constructing another home, which he called Sand Hill. I have found the location of Bermuda Hill, but I can not find the location of Sand Hill. Do you have any history on that house? It was described as having two fronts, a Swiss chalet front and a Colonial front with large columns. The Sand Hill place was sold around 1862, much to the dismay of the lady of the house. I would appreciate any information you might be able to find and share.
Thank you,
Paul McKay

I'm attempting to research my great-great-grandfather's (Thomas Vance) service in the 46th Regiment, Company I of the Mississippi Infantry. I've found his parole paper issued after at the surrender of Vicksburg, but would like to know if he reported when the regiment was instructed to muster(?) later that year at Decatur Alabama. Are there any records or journals of soldiers in Company I which was raised in Newton County? I've found a journal of a soldier in Company C, but it makes no mention of Company I.

In the history of the Stamper Family I noticed that Spencer Stamper died in 1848 and buried in Pike County, Ga. I found his grave, it is in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Pike County, Ga. The grave was in the woods in back of the main cemetery. Just thought the Stamper family might be interested.

My 3rd Great Grandfather was Edward R. Dennis (brother of Daniel Asa Dennis) from "History of Newton County" pages 162-172. We have E.R. Dennises (Denis?) history from this account and some other things that were passed down. I am hoping to get all the information I can on my ancestor. Please let me know if you can help me. Thank you.
